In 1860 Asel is living with his family in Clover, Henry County, IL.

In 1861 Asel is listed in a city directory as living in Davenport, IO and working as a book keeper.

In 1870 Asel is listed in the census as living in Bannock, Beaverhead, MT.  His wife and children are listed as living in Fond du Lac, WI.

In 1880 Asel is listed in the census as living in Lynn, Sioux, IO with his wife and family.

Asel was appointed Postmaster of Spirit Lake, Dickinson County, IA 22 Sep 1885.

In 1885 a census was taken in Iowa and at that time Asel F. Heath was living in section 8 of Center Grove Township, Dickinson County, Iowa.  Center Grove Township is highlighted in red in the Dickinson County IO map below.

On the Center Grove map you can see section 8, a one square mile area comprising 640 acres, below the name "Spirit Lake", and near "Center Lake".  This is where Asel was living in 1880.

The book "History of Emmet and Dickinson County, Iowa; a record of settlement organization, progress and achievement" contains the following which shows that Asel was Postmaster of the city of Spirit Lake in 1880:

"The first attempt at instituting another paper after the Beacon was established was in 1880, when Carl Eastwood started the Dickinson County Journal. It was a republican sheet. In 1884 the Eastwood brothers, then proprietors, sold the plant to J. 0. Stewart. Mr. Stewart made the paper an editorial success, but a financial failure, and in 1885 the paper went into the hands of C. H. Ayers and A. F. Heath, who changed its name and politics, entitling it the Spirit Lake Democrat. Heath was at that time postmaster. The paper, notwithstanding the fact that it had the support of the administration, soon became heavily in debt and was sold at sheriff's sale."

Asel and his wife Frances have the following four children:

    • Born about 1855 in England
    • Married H. A. Cox 25 Mar 1874 Chicago, Cook County, IL (He died abt 1897)

Agnes Collier apparently was a stay-at-home wife when the Chicago census was taken in 1880.  She was living with her husband H. A. Cox and her mother, Sarah Collier, age 50.  Her husband was 30 and she was 25.  This census record proves that her maiden name was Collier and she was first married to H. A. Cox before marrying De Forrest Heath at age 38.

However, by 1885, as the below history of music in the Chicago public school system tells us, she was named "Assistant to the special teacher of vocal music", Mrs. Orlando Blackman who was in charge of the High, Grammar, and Primary schools of Chicago.

Agnes went on to lead the music education program for all Chicago schools until she died in 1926.  I've highlighted in yellow her name that appears frequently in the below history.
