The Philips' Sylvan Hall Cemetery is located behind the home of George Bess, 3909 Oxbow
Dr, Nashville, TN 37207.
We have lost
a good friend in the passing of George Bess who lives
on and owns the property where the Philips' Sylvan Hall Cemetery is
located.
His obituary appears below as it appears in today's (January 27 2015) Tennessean
newspaper.
George and his wife Dorothy (Dot) bought this property in the early
1960s, about the time the Joseph Philips home was razed and replaced
by the Methodist Church in the same location.
George and his wife have looked after the cemetery as if it was
their own over the years. George faithfully mowed the yard
surrounding the cemetery with his old farm tractor.
Some of you know George and Dot personally from visits to the
cemetery and remember how friendly they were in allowing any
visitors to pass up their driveway to the cemetery.
George often would visit with me and Dan Allen as we worked on the
restoration of the cemetery. I will miss him.
